An important and fun part of Rotary is the Fellowship with Rotarians.
Our Vocational Committee endeavour to create opportunities for Rotarians to share and enjoy each others company while also engaging in a fun activity or adventure.

A group of Waimate Rotarians along with our exchange student Francisca González, from Chile, travelled to Mt Cook National Park to see and experience the famous mountain up close.
The day was damp and misty but into the mountains, we ventured.
Apparently, the mountain is only seen one out of every three days.

Sadly this was not the day to see the elusive mountain that seemed to stay shrouded in mist and cloud all day.

However, we ventured out on to Tasman Glacier Lake to see icebergs up close.

We travelled across the lake in a small boat.
Peering through low mist we were surrounded by still grey milky water that we had been assured we would freeze within seconds if we fell in to.

And then as if by magic out of the mist we saw an iceberg.
Getting up close and being able to touch it was truly an experience.

Moving among other icebergs we travelled slowly up to the face of the Tasman Glacier and spent time listening to the creaking of the ice.

Even though the famous mountain stayed hidden all day and the day was cloudy with mist those who were there all agreed it added to the mystery and magic of the surroundings.
