From the President’s Keyboard
Last week was every President’s dream night – Two new members and a “Job Talk” referring to the speech given by New Members introducing themselves so that the Club gets to know them better.
Firstly, to Pablo and Carolina it is great to have you on board and hope that your time with us is enjoyable and fulfilling. We have welcomed your presence at or meetings so far and I am sure that will continue.
To hear Marjanna’s talk made you realize that moving from war torn Europe to new country was not easy, leaving your family and friends, taking only what you could pack in a suitcase, having little money, working in tough laboring jobs, risking hard earned cash to set up self-employed ventures from town supply milk, chicken and egg production, to buying a farm at Morven. And while doing this raising a large family. This is how her parents set themselves up and become a valuable part of our community. Marjanna and her husband David Hay struggled with taking on the family farm in the high interest/low price period of the eighties, both taking outside jobs to survive at the same time as raising a family. The arrival of the Dairy Industry and a hard-working Daughter and Son in law enabled the farm to transfer to the next generation. This has enabled Marjanna to stay on the farm giving welcome support to her family and enjoy seeing the business prosper.
Her Dutch Heritage will not allow here to sit idle for long, hence her willingness to join Rotary and help out in the Community. Marjanna, we hope you enjoy your stay with Rotary.
This week, we have another “job talk”. Alison Leafberg will continue the Leafberg story giving her version. We have already heard from Greg.
Also, we have another small job to do – more about that on Thursday.
South Island District Changeover.
This will take the form of a Buffet Lunch on 29th June in Dunedin. To date only two from the Club have registered, how about some more. More detail are available on Valda Cordes email sent Monday. Today is the last day for reduced registration fee of $55.00
Waimate High School “Ag Hub” Introduction
This will take place on Thursday 13th at Quinns Arcade at 7pm -9.30pm.
We will have our normal meal and short meetings at the T&C. then procced to the Arcade at 7pm
