What a fantastic first evening back at the Town and Country Club, with 46 people in attendance. By the chatter levels we had all certainly missed being able to natter away to our hearts content, and it was lovely to see all the smiles as everyone caught up.... even if I had to ring the bell extra loud to get everyone's attention haha
Big thanks to the Kenyan travellers for giving us a bit of a rundown on how things went. It was wonderful to hear how much was achieved in such a short time frame and also how much impact the experience had on each of you, with the Horne's already planning on a return trip. I think the questions could have gone on for ages so please take the time to chat with the team and learn all about the project and trip. We now look forward to hearing from Parklands Rotary Club and the Aim's as to how the project progresses.
Only a couple of weeks to go of my Presidential year and it has certainly been an interesting and unusual year!
Next week we will enjoy a farewell event and presentation for our Rotary Youth Exchange "son" Calix. It is hoped that all his host families will join us for the evening, and it would be fantastic to get a big turn out of club members.
25th June is changeover, with a mid winter Christmas theme - so pull out those special Christmas jerseys, the tinsel earrings etc and prepare for a fun night out.

CLUB NOTICES
Club President Sharyn thanked members for staying in touch with the club and each other, during the COVID lockdown.
Would all members decide if the want to renew their subscription to Rotary Down Under magazine, which has an Australasian focus, or The Rotarian, which is looks at the international club activities. All Rotarians must subscribe to either the RDU or The Rotarian, and this comes out of your club subs. The costs as at 1st July for the annual subscription shall be as follows; hard copy magazine currently $40 will increase to $44, digital copy magazine currently $40 will decrease to $34. Please tell Sharyn whether you want a posted hard copy or digital version (sent by email).
Rotarian Harvey spoke about working as a pharmacist during the lockdown. Harvey acknowledge to patience and support of our community, thanked the Inner Wheel Club of Waimate for their donation to support the delivery of medicines to isolated people in Waimate.
Rotaract member Zara Wilson, originally from Waimate, also spoke to the club. Zara returned to Waimate during the lockdown. After finishing high school, a gap year in 2016 spent working at the Fontera factory at Studholme prompted Zara to begin studying for a Bachelor of Food Technology at Massey. Zara continued her connection with Rotary by joining the university Rotaract club and is currently the club president. A highlight of the year has been hosting the Rotaract Oceania Conference in Palmerston North.
The guest speaker tonight was Robyn Horne, accompanied by the club members who travelled to Kenya to begin the Osiligi project. Although they were overtaken by world events, the group experienced an amazing 3 days at Osiligi and were determined to achieve as much as they could before they were forced to cut short their trip. Meeting the Parklands Rotary club, our partner club in the project, was a significant confidence booster. The Kenyan Rotarians were impressed by what they saw at the training centre, and seemed committed to ensuring the project's success. Ian Moore, Greig Moore, Michael Horne, and Gary Dennison talked about the development that has taken place at Osiligi, and the ongoing impact that our club's previous generosity has had. A breeding pair of pigs, donated by Chris and Sheila Paul, have sired a large herd on the farm. The education rooms which were furnished by New Zealand Rotary clubs are well maintained. Football uniforms that were donated by Raewyn Francis are proudly worn by students at the training centre (shown below).
