The club welcomed visitor Alister Brown, past president of our club.
Our club was responsible for collecting donations of $365, when we ran a BBQ at last year's Christmas in the Square.
Over the last week, Waimate Rotarians served our community by prepping the Plunket Rooms for painting, and clearing felled trees from the property of recently widowed Heather Kaynes. Thank you to everyone who was able to help.
Volunteers are needed for Waimate's Family Day on Sunday 23 February at the Norman Kirk Swimming Pool. Rotary has been asked to provide a BBQ. Volunteers are also needed from 10am to help set up the Family Day activities, and to act as supervisors during the day. Please talk to Mark Shefford if you can help.
Volunteers are needed to help with Big Easy, a major fundraising event for our club. This is on Saturday 29 February starting at Victoria Park. Please speak to Raewyn Francis if you can help. Raewyn particularly needs help with registration from 7.30am to 10am.
Bushtown needs volunteers on Saturday 7 March between 12pm to 3pm at Bushtown, to collect an entry fee (a gold coin donation) from visitors. This is for a preparation day before the annual Steam Up on Sunday 8 March. Please speak to Alan Laurie if you can help.
The next directors meeting will be Thursday 20 February.
Accommodation, D9980 District Conference, March 19-21, 2021
Waimate
March 19th -21st 2021 is the timing for our 2021 District 9980 Conference being held in Waimate, and hosted by our District Governor Dylan and Rebecca and the Rotary Club of Waimate.
We are seeking indications from Club members who may be able to host visiting Rotarians for this weekend event. This is a great opportunity to meet other Rotarians and forge new friendships.
If you are willing to host a couple (or more) for the above weekend we would love to hear from you.
Any help you can give will be appreciated by your Conference Committee.
President elect Alan Maitland chaired the reports from our different committees.
Community service; very busy with a successful working bee at the Plunket Rooms, and upcoming service at the Family Day and log splitting (see above). There will be a committee meeting Tuesday 18 February at Edward Fletchers after the log splitting (about 7.30pm).
Youth committee; looking for female volunteers to read to primary school children. This project has been called Nana Jo-Jo. Please speak to John Greegan or Bridget Wilson if you can help, or speak to friends outside of our club who may be interested.
Vocational; planing on one more field trip this Rotary year.
International; the Osiligi Farm Support Project is being reviewed by the Rotary Foundation. The committee is currently responding to Foundation questions. A group of eight from our club will be travelling to Kenya on 13 March, to oversea the project. A tremendous $28,000 was raised at last years Foundation Night, and all but $200 has been collected.
Parting thought; those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it (Chinese proverb).
ROTARIANS OUT AND ABOUT
Waimate Plunket Rooms working bee - a couple of sessions have already been held getting the plunket rooms prepped and cleaned ready for painting. A few rotten boards have held us up a bit but we have a builder on the job and will soon be looking for helpers to get the painting all done. Thanks to Michael Horne for coordinating this task and all those who have been able to help so far, it is looking better already.

Presidents Message
BUSY AS BEES WITH A BUM FULL OF HONEY
Wow we have a lot going on at the moment!
Thank you to all those Rotarians who have been out and about getting stuff done, and also those who are busy frantically planning for upcoming events.
The working bees at the Plunket Rooms were a good opportunity to get together for a good cause, and the Plunket committee certainly appreciate the work we are doing.
I also wanted to mention the wonderful and thoughtful effort that has gone in to helping clear the property and chop firewood for Heather. We were all shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of Tracey and it is always hard to know how to best offer support, so this was a very practical idea to help in a small way. Thank you to all the Rotarians and friends who helped with this, and also to Edward and Pat for their hospitality.
As you can see in this bulletin we have a heap more stuff coming up, and it was lovely to hear from a member of the public this week that "your Rotary thing (logo) is on everything lately, you guys are awesome". On that note - just a wee reminder to try and check with anyone we are helping that they use our correct branding please for consistency. Our club logo is available as a png file (transparent background) in a couple of colours for posters etc and we can happily email them to organisers.
Thank you for all the nice messages checking to see if I needed anything while I was unwell, it gave me the warm fuzzies (when I was up to reading them) and cheers to Alan who kept you all in line last week with his usual good humour and effciency.

KEEPING UP WITH CALIX
Great long weekend away with the Rotary Youth Exchange Students from districts 9980 and 9970. We completed our walked to Diamond Lake to check out all the gear before we all do the Milford Track in March.
Boating and jet skiing was a highlight for them, and almost everyone got up on 2 skis, some mastered 1 ski.
We even had some dance lessons last night! Very tired and worn out Students!
