From the Presidents notebook. PETER HUGHES.
From The President’s Keyboard 10th June 2024
Having spent the weekend in Queenstown with a Lotto Ticket full of Dreams I now come home with my tail between my legs. Looking at property up to $10miilion at Tuckers Beach you would definitely have needed the $50 Million to live this lifestyle
The Maori Road does not seem so bad after all. Had a good look at Arrowtown and Queenstown, the recent developments are simply amazing.
It is great to hear our new members speeches at last weeks was no exception.
Alison, your speech come from the heart telling us of your journey through life
Coming from a large family, having 40 plus cousin, your love of animals and jobs that enabled you to be with animals, your return to Geraldine High School as an Adult student, then business studies at Aoraki College, working for Alpine Dairy Products (later called Fonterra) and to cap it off a Diploma in Accountancy in Nelson
Your journey to find a partner, made contact with Greg through Country Contacts, the guy from Ngapara. Parents with similar trade backgrounds.
Married in December 2001 with an arm in a sling and a leg in a cast and then purchased a property in Waituna the start of life in Waimate.
Your wish to have children, thwarted on many occasions then down the adoption/foster route. Firstly, two foster children and then adopting twin boys, dealing with all the red tape that goes with this. We even found out that Aoraki Stock foods Calf meal does not do kids any harm (another income avenue for Ken!!!)
We thank you Alison for this heart felt speech and hope Greg and your journey through life is easier. We value your friendly face at our meetings and hope that you enjoy being a Rotarian
Our meeting on the 20th is our final Club night with the 27th being changeover – the year is closing fast for me
Please think about District Changeover in Dunedin on the 29th (Miday Lunch). Registration link available on Valda Cordes recent email closing 13th June
This week’s meeting is a meal and short meetings at the T@ C then to the Arcade by 7pm for the launch of the Waimate High School project for Agriculture etc. utilizing the Waimate Racecourse Facility. Ryan is in charge so it would be great if our Club could show our support by being there. Should be all over by 9.30. Normal procedure for meal apologies but please advise Ryan if you wish to attend the function at the Arcade for catering
