From the Presidents notebook
I was fortunate enough this week to have an office that overlooked Mount Cook and the surrounding area. Nothing like getting some fresh air and perspective on life by heading away to the beautiful town of Twizel.
Congratulations to Dylan who once again was part of the winning basketball team, the Bucks, who took out this years mens basketball finals.
A reminder to everyone to watch for bugs going around, keep safe and if you need help with anything please let us know!
Out & About
PDG Dylan and his team Bucks won the Waimate Mens Senior Basketball Competition.
It was the official opening of the renovated Community Link building. Rotarian Mike Downes is the new Chair of the Waimate District Resource Trust.
Regionalisation
Rotary International has endorsed our Zone as being one of 2 regions in the world to develop and pilot a new governance solution, subject to the agreement of Clubs and Districts by 1 October 2022.
- There are 2 votes. A Club vote followed by a District vote. Districts across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands will follow the results of their internal Club ballot to vote in the Zone ballot.
- The overarching aim of the Regionalisation Project is to provide better & more direct support to Rotary & Rotaract Clubs.
- The existing Rotary Structure carries on as normal with Districts remaining in control of a Project that works up an alternative framework, identifying the best of the old with innovative ideas for the future.
- The Project will aim to address membership, public image, communication, leadership & fundraising challenges to help define a more sustainable future for Rotary.
- A vote of YES from the majority of Districts in this Zone simply allows the project to start-up.
- In 2024, after regular monitoring, evaluation & information sharing, our Club & District will be asked to vote again to either retain the current structure (status quo) or to adopt the Project recommendations as a permanent change.
