A big thanks to our hard working Directors and teams for such a great range of projects and activities that they shared at last week’s Club night. Very positive and lots on both now and further into the year. All of our teams are setting up programs to deliver on the vision of Retention, Community relevance and Environmental sustainability, it is really pleasing to see such good progress already.
It hasn’t stopped there, Policing in NZ and Canterbury appears to be in good hands with an insightful and interesting presentation from Police Superintendent John Price. In many respects the Force and New Zealanders continue to be tested. The negatives seem to be defining us and how we react to diversity. Maybe one day it will be the positives that define us and become the media stories that talk to society as being a wholesome and caring environment for all.
On Friday Colin picked me up from work and we went to Glenavy school to join Chris and Sheila there for two very important school celebrations/milestones. A school time-capsule including Covid – 19 objects such as hand sanitiser was buried, due to be unearthed in 19 Years to celebrate the schools 150th anniversary. Also the main event for us was the opening of the extention of the school library achieved by many and greatly influenced and supported by Chris. Further discussion was had on the Kindergarten building – perhaps something we can do there in the future. Please note it is quite the experience walking around Glenavy School with Chris. He is held in such high esteem at the school and is a massive supporter of the school and community in general – This is great to see Chris you are a true humanitarian.

Fonterra have kindly offered a heap of cut down trees to our club to cut up for firewood and sell asa fundraiser. Mark S will be in touch shortly with details of some days to do working bees.
Fonterra have also offered to work with our High School Honorary members to do a pine cone drive fundraiser - the students are in need of 25 kg calf meal or tux bags or similar and ask for Rotarians to bring any they have to Rotary over the next 2 weeks and give to Amelia.
We need your help Waimate Club members - We are looking for you to become a home host for District Conference weekend March 19-21. Meet fellow Rotarians and make new friends. The Rotary Foundation has quite a different purpose to Rotary International. Earlier it was said to think of Rotary International as a large Rotary Club with the Rotary Clubs of the world as its membership.
The Rotary Foundation is just like a Trust Fund of that imaginary Rotary Club, just as our Rotary Club has a charitable Trust Fund.
It is governed by 15 Trustees whom are appointed by the Board of Directors of Rotary International. Four of the Trustees must be the four most immediate Past Presidents of Rotary International, and the balance of 11 Trustees appointments are spread from around the world.
Every Foundation of a Trust Fund has a purpose. Simply the purpose of the Rotary Foundation is to gather money in to a pool so we can fund programmes to achieve International Understanding and Peace that we could not do acting as individual Rotary Clubs or individual Rotarians.
