Last Thursday night was a night of firsts for our Rotary Club. After the sale of our previous venue, it was a mad dash to find another suitable home for our weekly events. Luckily our community and business owners are very obliging, and a new home has been secured at the Waimate Town and Country Club. Our first event at our new home was a celebration of a Mid Winter Christmas, which was a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. Last Thursday also marked the start of our new Rotary Year under the Rotary International President Mark Maloneys theme -  Rotary Connects the World. The speaker we chose for the evening followed on with the series of firsts with a video message from our new 9980 District Governor Tania Lowery, including snippets from our Assistant Governor Raewyn Francis and District Governor Elect Dylan Murray who are both Waimate Rotarians. Another highlight on the night was the number of wonderful thank you letters and cards we have recieved from groups and individuals that are grateful for the support from our club. These included Main School kids for their dictionaries, Makikihi School kids for paying for their trip to the young leaders day in Dunedin, CentreCare Counselling, and the Waimate Parenting Hub. Great stuff team - we really make a difference! Best dressed for the night went to Rotarian Bridget for her fabulous homemade costume - the gift that keeps on giving, and gifts were also given to Rotarians Carolyn Johns and Jim Young for telling us why Rotary is special to them. What a terric night.
