Last Thursday Night, the 5th of December, the Rotary Club of Waimate was pleased to present community member Joan Dennison with a Paul Harris Fellowship. Joan has set an example for many by her contributions to our community. Her personal involvement makes our community a better place to live. Joan's service does not go unnoticed, her commitment to the Whitehorse Lions Club as a Past President and secretary for many years, involvement with SeniorNet, deliverer of meals on wheels, helping at the Museum,  and long serving secretary for the Waimate Regent Theatre Trust including selling tickets and serving up those lovely chocolate derby icecreams. Friends of Lister Home and the Waimate Community Vehicle Trust are also fortunate to have Joan's skills as a secretary, the combined services training grant has been professionally organised under her guidance, she helps organise and run a fitness group for 25+ people, and is also a founding member of the Positive Waimate group that organises the Waimate Christmas Parade amongst other initiatives.
Joan is a previous recipient of a Waimate District Civic Award recognising her contribution to the community and commitment to help others.
The Rotary Club of Waimate recognises Joan's efforts and has made a contribution to the Rotary Foundation in her name. This contribution will continue the good works down by Rotary worldwide and may include things like providing educational opportunities, food for the poor, clean water, shelter, immunisations, child and maternal health initiatives and so much more.
Our club could not be more proud to acknowledge and thank Joan for being an exemplar of "Service above Self"
